A struggling couple decide to try another route to wealth: stealing at Owambe parties.
I promise you that when this film started, it wasn’t so bad. In fact, I laughed quite a bit at the beginning. I thought Zubby was funny, and he was not even trying. I would not have thought Eniola Ajao and Zubby Michael would work well together, but they made sense in that mummy-and-daddy kind of way. Poverty exposes you to all sorts and Oga Bernard was a jerk. Even though I am really tired of Sola Sobowale screaming every time I see her in movies, she did look like a good match as Wumi’s mother. All this to say: it was not bad at first, and even though they did not really look too high-end, they did put together some good parties.
Then they stole money from a party one time and continued. They did not try to have a plan. They did not pretend to have an escape route for every wedding where they showed up to steal. Every time, the money was always just there, waiting in a bag, ready to be picked up. Stealing money in broad daylight just like that, walking away from party halls with their loot like they were invisible: it was ridiculoussssss!
Their final heist was the worst. Picture this: there was a loud bang; everyone in the hall ran away, but the husband and wife were just standing there holding their baby, unbothered (I won’t say anything about the whole Denrele thing that happened there; no comment). Somehow, they managed to leave the party with the money. Then we saw what was supposed to be a police chase. Husband and wife eventually parked their car somewhere, and suddenly the wife was pointing a gun at her husband because he cheated on her. They were having a face-off, and it was still bright outside. The next thing we know, it was already pitch black late at night, and she was still pointing a gun at him. Don’t forget that their baby had been in the car by himself all this while, and the police had still not managed to get there. We could just hear the sirens going on and on. Anyway, the film ended there and they had the audacity to end with, “The story continues.”What story?
It is well.
