This remake is an addendum. 20 years later, Aki & Pawpaw now live in Lagos with their uncle and they are still struggling to make ends meet. Following a fortunate encounter with Samantha (A social media expert and talent manager) they become popular on Instagram and they make a lot of money.
There is not much to say about this movie because there was not much to it. Storyline was poor, plot development and dialogue were equally bad. It was not funny, the attempt at introducing conflict did not work because the whole thing about a fake endorsement contract just seemed forced.
Casting and acting did not redeem this movie either because even the main stars Aki & Pawpaw did not give their best.
Toyin Abraham and Beverly Osu will take on new roles in 2022 in Jesus name, i am tired of seeing them do the same thing over and over again. I don’t know why RealWarriPikin was in this movie, I don’t know what character Blessing Obasi was supposed to be but watching her scream on and off was annoying. It was uninspiring watching the cast of Aki & Pawpaw do their thing. It was also wrong watching Aki & Pawpaw jump around with their big breasts. This movie was over 1 hour of awkward moments.

Better camera quality, better use of technology and the opportunity for Aki & Pawpaw to show off their new wardrobe, was all this movie had to offer.
A good remake should help the audience return to a story they love. We loved Aki & Pawpaw, we loved Aki & pawpaw memes even more, but did we love the stories and the movie they starred in?
Even though these guys are legends, we must admit that they starred in some of the worst and dumbest movies to ever come out of Nollywood, so did we really need to go back there? Absolutely Not. The core of Aki & Pawpaw story itself does not resonate and appeal to this generation of audience, we have evolved but Play Studio insists on taking us back. I guess they were deceived by people’s fondness for Aki & Pawpaw memes.
If my expectation is to cringe & laugh at the same time, i only need to watch Mummy G.O’s videos on TikTok, why should I pay 4k for that?????
Remakes are becoming popular in Nollywood but after Living in bondage – Breaking free, I can categorically say that the other remakes have been disappointing. Aki & Pawpaw is unfortunately the most recent addition.
I’m sure they made a lot of money from this production but Chief Daddy would have made a lot of money too if it had been released in the cinema, so we know that making millions from unsuspecting Nigerians does not make a movie a good one.
The Aki & Pawpaw franchise was a major part of our past, they should have remained there.
