Summary: Dinner at my place is a romantic comedy that talks the story of Nonso (played by Timini Egbuson) plans a romantic dinner in order to propose to his girlfriend (played by Sophie Alakija) but he complicates issues by hiding the ring in the most awkward place (inside a bowl of egusi soup). Unfortunately, his razz and dramatic ex-girlfriend (played by Bisola Ayieola) shows up, she joins them for dinner and further complicates things.
I liked the storyline, simple and straight to the point. Movie setup and camera quality was good, casting and acting was great. Bisola was the highlight (what was that voice???) the babe can act sha!
The chemistry between Timini and Sophie looked real and I enjoyed the budding romance between Jay and Cynthia
Story progression was coherent, they did not try too hard to be funny. They just allowed things flow.
I felt they did not pay enough attention to detail though. For example:
- Bisola was eating poundo yam and egusi soup when she swallowed something huge, Nonso pulled her aside to tell her she might have mistakenly swallowed his $22,000 ring. I expected to see the soup stain on her palms or even oil around her mouth (because she had been eating without any form of decorum) but her hands were clean, there was no sign that she had just been eating. It appears she freshened up before that scene and they forgot the tiny details.
- How did the water in the hotel toilet get so full? I still don’t understand what happened exactly at that point, we just saw water everywhere, not from the tap but from the water closet itself. What happened? Where did the water come from?
- The proposal was supposed to be a surprise but Cynthia’s car was parked right in front of Nonso’s house. The first thing Chioma would have seen was her friend’s car in front of her man’s apartment, they forgot to take that into consideration.
- I felt Bisola had too much energy for someone who had overdosed on laxatives.
But regardless of the things mentioned above, Dinner at my place was a really good one. It gave this fun and relaxed kinda vibe. You should totally check it out.
