I was thoroughly confused by this movie.
I don’t even know how to summarize it but I will try because you people must feel a little bit of what I felt.
What I thought the story was about – First 30minutes
Chloe (played by Munachi Abii) moves into a new house in a new neighborhood and she meets her new neighbors – John & Ashley (played by Gideon Okeke and Benedicta Gafah).
In Chloe’s new house, we could see several boxes and furniture in the house and it was obvious someone or a family had previously lived there. She wore black leather gloves and painstakingly ransacked the boxes for days. She inspected the photo frames and at some point, it seemed like she found something shocking and important in a small brown box. I was almost certain she was there to steal something or to unravel a deep secret. But that was not the main story. They abandoned this angle and moved on.
What I then thought the story was about – Another 30minutes
Ashley went to visit her new neighbor Chloe but Chloe was acting very sinister. She was giving Ashley evil stares, being very nosy and rude, then we saw her writing John’s name (Ashley’s husband) with red ink in a crazed manner all over her journal. She tried to strike a friendship with John, so I thought maybe Ashley had somehow stolen John from Chloe and she was obsessed about getting revenge but again that was not the story either. The story changed angles again!
What the story was about exactly- The last 40mins
Apparently, Chloe had been seeing a therapist because she was suffering from body dysmorphia. She wore black leather gloves all the time because a few years ago, she lost a finger. One day, Chloe had a mental wave and she convinced herself that Ashley her new neighbor was the person who cut off her finger, so she went to her house and tried to kill her. (I won’t even tell you how messy this scene was)
Luckily for Ashley, her husband arrives and saves her. Chloe was taken to a psychiatric hospital. Ashley went to visit her but Chloe attacked her again. This time around, Chloe stole Ashley’s clothes and ran away, leaving Ashley in the psychiatric hospital.
What happened next? Nothing. That was the end of the movie.
Are you confused? Same here
Who was the owner of Chloe’s house? Why was she writing John’s name is red? What was the importance of the early parts of the movie? What was in the box she found? Who were the people in the picture frames? Who actually cut off Chloe’s finger? When? Where? How? Where did Chloe escape to? What eventually happened to Ashley?
No answers o, the movie ended abruptly.
The next thing on my screen was : Directed by Director Mo
And in my mind I was thinking, Director Mo must be going through something because what kind of movie is this????
My main frustration was with the fact that they did not know the direction they wanted to go. They moved in so many directions and left us the audience behind.
This is the most incoherent movie I have seen in a while, even The American king does not come close.
The acting and casting was another issue, the lead actor – Gideon Okeke, he was just there. The lead actress on the other hand, cannot act to save her life. She dragged this movie ehn, meanwhile she had more screen time than any other person. They would randomly show a scene where she was just sitting down and rolling her eyes like someone that was about to have a seizure. I was just fed up.
Mercy Aigbe should not have been in this movie, it was stressful watching her struggle with her lines.
As for Munachi Abi, I understand that it is difficult to be great when you are surrounded by mediocrity. I have seen her act, so I know she has the talent but in this movie, I did not even understand what she was supposed to be doing.
Mistakes? There were just too many mistakes. Unnecessary scenes, unnecessary arguments, some scenes were even showing upside down.
The movie did not have any redeeming feature.
The only people that should watch this movie are upcoming writers or directors because it definitely shows you how not write a story or direct a movie.
