Synopsis– Sarah and Kemi ( played by Inidima Okojie and Nancy Isime) are friends who have become sisters. On Sarah’s wedding day, the both of them mistakenly kill Sarah’s abusive fiancé and they must run as fast and as far away as possible in order to escape the consequences of their actions.

What did I think about this Movie? Amazing cinematography, excellent costumes and good acting but I did not like the story telling at all.

I won’t complain about the fact that this movie was star studded because we all know that Ebony life will not rest until they litter their movie with so many popular faces, even A list actors are casted for waka pass roles.

All the actors did well but I’ll like to spotlight some characters; Gabriel Afolayan delivered as usual and Kehinde Bankole gave a stellar performance. They were a really good fit, looking forward to seeing Kehinde take on more mature roles. Nancy Isime and Inidima Okojie were really good. Special accolades to Kate Henshaw, I liked the attitude!

I knew I said I won’t complain but still, why was Toyin Abraham in this movie? Zack Orji was a waka pass???

How about Ramsey Nouah?? Ramsey is a fave any day any time but this critic is of the opinion that he was not the right person for that role. Even with his slow motion James Bond moves and the black suit, I could not take him seriously because I was just thinking “why are they stressing this old man? Someone like Bolanle Ninalowo would have worked better for that role.

So moving on, did I like this movie? Sorry to hurt your feelings but this movie was not great. Forget the hype, so many things did not just make sense.

What were this issues?

1. Character development was poor. For example, Kola is a rich and privileged guy not a “street” guy but he was able to spot, fight and defeat a hired assassin, How na??? He collected the gun like it was a piece of cake. Does Kola have experience in physical combat or martial arts? This is a series for God sake so we should have gotten a solid background for our characters.

If you ask me, I will say the first time we saw Kola, he should have been working out or doing a martial art routine, this would have been a good explanation for how he was able to beat up a professional killer. The scene where he was closing a deal on his wedding day was really of no importance in the grand scheme of things and should have been cut out.

⁃ Still on character development, why was Uncle B (played by Ramsey Nouah) mute for the major part of the movie? How was that character makeup relevant to the plot development?

  • Why did Uduak (played by Kate Henshaw) hate her children? It’s normal to have a favorite child but why did she hate them so much.
  • We know Kemi lost her parents as a child and she grew up with Sarah, so why was she so hard? She killed people without blinking an eye, butchered a person like a psycho and she was not even worried that she killed someone, she was only worried about going to jail. Not once did we see her take a step back and panic at the realization that she was a murderer. We did not get any insight into what made her character tick.

2. Another challenge was plot progression, it was very weird. They flipped the script and put what should have been revealed later at the beginning, filled the middle with unnecessary activities and refused to give us an end.We already knew the killers at the beginning. I was expecting a situation where everyone who was at the wedding and who had something to gain from Kola’s death would have been suspects. I thought it would be an exhilarating journey of uncovering evidence, crossing off suspects and narrowing the list till the actual killer is found. But alas, they already showed us the people who killed him at the beginning so what exactly was the point of the movie? There was no suspense, no intrigue, nothing to anticipate, we were just waiting to see how long it would take the police to catch the girls, nothing more.

3. Issue number 3, loopholes in this movie ehn, opoooooorrrrrr. I had so many questions. For example, where and how did the girls get the hotel uniforms they wore after killing Kola? Why will 2 girls decide to butcher a man? That’s like a stretch. Where did they get shovels from? How were they able to dig a grave with just shovels? Digging the grave should have taken them hours, they left the hotel at midnight and by the time they finished burying him, it should have been dawn already but everything was still pitch black like only 2 to 3hours had passed. The movie director should have introduced a ticking time to add a sense of urgency, but everything just looked like a breeze. Almost like they had killed, butchered and buried someone before.

What happened to the photographer? Nobody found his body? Nobody linked the death to the girls? That part of the movie just died like that.

What was the movie director doing???

Let’s talk about the whole investigation process. The girls were not even trying so hard to cover their tracks. The first thing the police should have reviewed was the hotel’s CCTV footages and the statements from the hotel staff. Sarah and Kemi did not clean the blood with any chemical, they did not even have enough clothes to properly clean the blood, so the cleaners in charge of the room would have told the detective that they remember that Sarah’s room had a pungent smell of blood when they cleaned after the party, they would have told him that an expensive rug got missing from the room, they would have told him they saw traces of blood. CCTV footages would have shown Kemi going to the kitchen to get knives, it would have shown both of them rolling a bag out of the elevator. But instead they were going around chasing the wind.

Nobody tampered with the CCTV footages so why exactly was the hotel releasing the CCTV footages to the police in bits?

As the audience, although we already knew that Blade did not kill Kola, still, he should have been among the early suspects alongside Kenny because he was also escorted out of the building by security on the day of the incident. Imagine my surprise when they only started investigating blade towards the end of this movie. The whole investigation process was not exciting at all.

4. In the end, there were too many questions on my mind. Why did they need to bribe the police? As soon as the dogs dug up the body remains, detective Joe declared to his boss that it was Kola’s body even before going to the scene. How did he know? It could have been a random body. Kenny was arrested the same day Sarah and Kemi ran away, so how was he the one that helped them get a place to hide in Makoko when he was still in custody?

  • Kola was beating Toke Makinwa, so why was she still begging to come back to him?
  • Why did Sandra breakup with Kenny in the first place? Why did Uncle B not have his bath or change his clothes for 3 whole days??? What was the nonsense prosthetic they put on Wofai’s eyes? It was poorly done. Even though they were smart enough not to give us a close up shot, for an injury that was old it was still red and it looked so unreal.

I want to believe the reason they made this movie into a series was to give them enough time to adequately address issues but still, they left so many questions unanswered.

Lastly, I did not like the end. A limited series ideally means there will be no season 2. Therefore, a limited series cannot end with a cliffhanger. A limited series is supposed to show episodes that will tell the complete story. So why did they end the movie like that? Did Timeyin kill her entire family? Did the girls escape any form of punishment even after killing other people?

Although, domestic violence is a very important theme that this movie tries to address, is it really right for those girls to escape punishment? They did not only kill Kola, they butchered him. They even killed the photographer. Should they really go Scot-free?

I have seen so many hot takes about this movie so I’ll address a few of them. Is Blood sisters a major improvement for Ebony life production? Yes! It was obvious they were really trying to make up for Chief Daddy 2 with this one and I appreciate the effort. But is this the Best movie out of Nollywood? No, let’s be calming down. Is it the best Netflix Naija Production? No. Should other directors take lessons form the director of this movie? Stop playing abeg. While I can’t call this a mediocre production, I must say they did not get it right still. Better luck next time.

Overall, this movie did not give me anything to work with. I only watched the 4 episodes because I had to post this review for you guys. Normally, I would have stopped after episode 1.

Rating: 6/10
