Synopsis: Unfortunately I can’t really summarize because so much was going on. But incase you did not know, this movie is a remake of the 1994 blockbuster – Glamour girls.
What did I like about this movie? I liked the picture quality and I also liked the fact that we could see the “Glamour”.
But good picture quality and casting fine girls can only take you so far, do you actually have a coherent story? For this movie, the answer to that question is No. This movie is a lesson in confusion. Confusion opoorrrrrr!
Let’s start with acting and casting. Casting was a no, acting was an epic fail. I won’t bore you by calling their names one after the other but all I will say is that there must have been a general brief – a brief that they should leave their acting skills at home because the uniformity with which they gave us sub par performances ehn, it was too bad to be a coincidence. Someone should have been screaming cutttttttttt over and over again on the set of the movie.
I can’t even applaud Nse’s performance. Her performance was not bad but it was not great either. It is difficult to be great when you are surrounded by mediocrity.
Character development was non existent. For example, what was the backstory for Louise (played by Toke Makinwa)? Why and how did a big Lagos runs girl marry a local man who she was spending her money on? Also, the lady called Hell (played by Segilola Ogidan), what was her back story? Since she was from a wealthy home, why was she living that kind of life? Sharon was hustling to fend for her siblings but we never saw her send money to them, where were they? Like I always say, the little things make a difference.
Plot development was very incoherent. Too many unnecessary scenes and you’ll just find yourself wondering what was the point? For example, that scene where Donna (played by Nse) travelled to Lebanon and was saying “my queens” to those two women, what was the point?
Poor audio, choice of music for the movie soundtrack was also poor. At some point I was wondering, Who is Larry gaga???? An investor? Because even when it was not appropriate, they used his song as the movie’s soundtrack and it did not make sense. In my mind I was like can Larry just gerrof already🙄.
So many questions. When Louise’s husband went to her shop with a cutlass threatening to kill her sugar daddy, he opened the door and looked so shocked like he saw something entirely different and I was wondering what did he see? He even seized their daughters and threatened that he’ll deal with her if she failed to send money to him for their upkeep. So what exactly was his hold on her? How did Jemma kill Alexander? What did they do with His body? Sheggy knew his bodyguard was sleeping with Emma, did he accuse Emma? Did he strike a deal with her to betray Zeribe?
What exactly was that final scene about???
Please let’s talk about the flash drive. (I must say I did not understand how they were putting a flash drive in a laptop and they were seeing money). Who invites a random hacker to hack a file containing billions???
It was just one flash drive at the beginning, Zeribe connived with the hacker to duplicate the flash drive but suddenly it seemed like there were more than 2. Was it the same flash Zeribe put in Emma’s pocket that she put in his pocket or another one? How and where did Donna get the flash drive she pulled out of her wig? How was she able to divide the money in the flash such that Chief got the flash drive with 15billion while she got the flash drive with the remaining money? When exactly and how did all this happen? They were all in the same room for God sake!
How did everything happen?? What exactly happened??
In their desperate attempt to titillate and thrill by adding twists, they only succeeded in creating confusion. I was just thinking, this people must think we are stupid because what is all this? Anyway, me I am not stupid in Jesus name and my followers are not stupid, it’s their movie that is sorely lacking.
I can’t say Glamour girls is a sorry chapter for Play network productions because they have consistently botched about 3 movie remakes. The remake of Glamour girls only takes them a notch lower in the mud. Someone should tell them to stop already. But the truth is they won’t. The award outfits in Nigeria keep rewarding their ineptitude with undeserved accolades.
Overall, it was not a good watch. Bad acting, bad dialogue and bad plot, it fails to improve on its source material, it manages to underachieve the bar set by its 1994 predecessor(over 2 decades later) and most importantly, it offers so little in terms of dramatic momentum and it is more likely to put you to sleep or give you headache than thrill you.
Our rating: 1.5/10
1 is for the glamour and 0.5 is for Nse.
