Synopsis: The young son of a corrupt governor is in debt. He conspires to kidnap his father in order to get money from him to pay off his debts. Officer Tolani, Officer Juliet, Chinedu and Buta are bystanders who get involved in this scheme.
I’m not sure what to say about the storyline, it was not great but we also cannot call it a bad one. A lot was happening at the beginning of the movie, different characters were appearing randomly but eventually they were able to link them together, so I will say plot progression was coherent.
Acting and casting did not work. It was painful watching all of them. This movie featured some
A-list actors but the delivery was just off. Some people had no business being in this movie but I won’t mention names sha. I’ll however talk about 2 characters specifically.
Uzor Arukwe’s performance was the only remarkable performance in this movie, I liked the manner with which he approached the role.
Broda Shaggi on the other hand was the most stressful character in this movie. The shouting, the exaggerated gestures and let’s not forget the flat jokes. When you think it can’t get worse, he manages to produce something more ridiculous from his bottomless pit of dead jokes, and let’s not forget how many times he said “don’t dwindle”. The truth is that we can’t blame him, movie directors who cast him expect him to act like his social media personality and that is exactly what he does, it’s just not funny anymore.

This movie is a lesson in suspense-free storytelling. We already knew that Timini was the one who kidnapped his father, so there was nothing to look forward to. They could have waited till the last minute to reveal this. So many people could have been suspects, including the deputy governor but no, they shared too much, too soon. As such, there were no highlights, no discovery, no build up, nothing. Just people holding guns at odd angles shouting “shet mehn” up and down.
I had so many questions, what exactly was the connection between Chinedu and Buta? Who was Kayindamola and why was she the one revealing the terms of the governor’s life insurance to his son? The governor was away for about 48-72 hours, so why exactly did that have to happen? How did Officers Tolani and Juliet kick out the male police officers from the moving vehicle? They were whispering so loud, it was impossible for the male police officers not to hear their plan but we see them propose sex to the officers and the next thing, they kicked them out of the moving vehicle. Officer Juliet’s makeup was still fresh with her lipstick and eyelashes in place even after being on the run for 48 hours, why?
Let’s talk about Timini’s chest injury, it suddenly disappeared the following day. No bandage, no sign that he had been hurt around a very sensitive area (his chest) with a sharp knife. He was not even flinching by the next day. Did they forget he was supposed to have an injury?
Comedy? This movie that masquerades as a comedy was incapable of telling one single joke properly.
What was that end????? A complete mess.
How did Officer Juliet escape all the shooting in that small room unscathed? How did she escape the building? How did she appear behind Black shadow? Why did Black shadow’s mother suddenly rise up from the dead? Who moved her body from the house where she was killed to the bush? Why was she calling their names? To what end? Like I said, a complete mess.
As far as comic thrillers go, Dwindle is strictly mediocre stuff. Thin characterization, bland performances, weak dialogues, threadbare jokes and action sequences that fail to generate any excitement.
I’m glad I did not pay to see this movie in a cinema.
