What I thought the story was about – First 30minutes

After discovering her fiancee is Bisexual, Oyin Clegg has to choose between a sham marriage and returning to the chaotic world of dating.

What the story was about exactly- The last 40mins

Apparently, Ossy (played by Charles Etubiebi) is an obsessed stalker and woman beater. He is now married to Gloria but he constantly abuses her (physically and emotionally) while trying to get Oyin (played by Ade Laoye) back. After finding out his evil plans, the 3 friends join hands together to punish him for his wicked ways.

I am convinced that there must be a secret cabal duping Netflix into selecting woefully deficient scripts because what was this movie????

Finding Hubby 1 was manageable because even though the story was not exciting, it progressed logically. The storyline for Finding Hubby 2 was really poor, the storytelling was even worse because it appeared that they were not sure of where they were going. I kept asking myself, what was the the point of this movie? What message exactly are they trying to pass?

For a romantic comedy, Finding Hubby was inept on every level. It was not funny neither was it romantic. The ladies did not find love in the long run. Oyin eventually settled for her petty ex-boyfriend. Toke became a baby mama for a younger man, and Gloria became a divorcee. I don’t have an issue with them becoming these things but these women did not find themselves in the long run, they did not come to that place of self-love and self-value. The whole portrayal of love, romance and relationships was so toxic. Not one sweet moment, not one fond memory, not one scene stood out, and even the characters were not likeable.

For acting and casting, they retained the characters from part 1, and these actors had nothing new to offer. The characters became increasingly stiff and annoying as the movie progressed. Kehinde Bankole should have found a way to avoid this movie, she is too big and too talented to be a part of mediocre movies like this.

Character development was non-existent. They could not even show character growth, the ladies were really shallow and they lacked self-awareness in part 1, it got worse in part 2. These ladies were supposed to be around 35 for God’s sake but their conversations, their actions, their decisions, everything was off.

Setting, camera, makeup and lighting? Poor!

Let me specifically talk about their outfits, all of them were looking squeezed, all their outfits were ugly and they did not think it was necessary to use an Iron. Every single person in this movie looked rough, I was experiencing second hand embarrassment on their behalf. Who was responsible for costumes? What was the director looking at???

Let me not even talk about their hair or Gloria’s fake injury and how it suddenly disappeared 1 day after leaving the hospital.

Oyin was getting married to a billionaire and her wedding gown looked so tacky, the makeup, the church ceremony, everything just screamed low budget. Why bother at all? This movie was not even needed in the first place, so why bother when money was a challenge?

Trust me when I say the movie got more ridiculous as it progressed. The gay billionaire part of the story stopped abruptly and Ossy became the new villian. The ladies suddenly became detectives, copying information with a flash from Ossy’s laptop, creeping around at night wearing hoodies and stuff. Like I said ridiculous.

I was almost convinced that a man wrote the story because the portrayal of these women was just wrong and pitiful, I was certain a man just sat down in one room imagining what women think, say, how they act and even what they wear and that was why everything came out wrong. Imagine my shock when I got to the end and realized 2 women wrote this. I won’t say much but I strongly believe that this story should have remained in their drafts.

Overall, Finding Hubby 2 was not a good watch. It was a sequel we did not need…. a forgettable time waster. Poor story, shallow characters, weak directing, and shoddy production values. It’s down there at the bottom of the cinematic barrel with the likes of Tanwa Savage, Special Jollof and Slay, to mention a few.

I am thankful they did not make me go to the cinema to watch this.
